Continuing, Kessner reported for HSToday that “close cooperation between Israel's robust defense industry and the IDF has led to the development of state-of-the-art intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems vital for stopping terrorism at the border. The security fence and towers, air platforms, mobile command and control and signals intelligence platforms are good examples of industry and military collaboration. Equipping those systems with the latest sensors has enabled the IDF to use the technological advantage to reduce manpower requirements.”

And although Israel’s security fence is not without problems, Kessner noted that “the defense establishment has managed to create an effective framework for protecting the country's boundaries against threats old and new. Though unique, Israel's experience offers several lessons for any nation facing threats along its borders.”

And that is, “you cannot secure your border without first adequately providing physical security – the Israelis have shown that,” Hanna said.

Based on my own recent and unsullied experience getting to know Israel’s security fence, the technology that is incorporated into it, how the border crossings are managed, and the numerous briefings I had from IDF and other Israeli military and intelligence authorities in which they demonstrated the fence’s effectiveness, I must side with the notion that an Israeli-similar security fence along crucial sections of the US/Mexico border – as determined by intelligence, topography, and other factors – would serve as an effective deterrent to entry, whether the illegal entrants be foreign nationals simply wanting to come to the Unites States for whatever reason, or terrorists.
